What's your favourite running surface?:
Road. I love running in quiet lanes with beautiful views.
How did you start running?:
Like many people, through parkrun! I was told about parkrun by a friend at work and my son started taking part with his friends from school. I would drop them off and watch, never once thinking that I would even attempt running. Then I had a health scare and major surgery. Like many people in that situation I had a ‘life’s too short’ feeling and decided the time was right to try something I had always shied away from.

This club was recommended to me by a friend who lives too far away to be a member herself. I just wasn’t confident that being a running club was for people like me. But, she told me that Lliswerry Runners had a great reputation for being friendly and welcoming everyone. So my message is, do it. Really, just give it a go! Don’t be held back by worries about speed or distance. Don’t be worried whether you’ll fit in. Everyone really does pull together and encourage each other no matter who you are or what level you run at. Don’t shy away like I did, running with a club really can be for you.

How did you start running?:
My son joined Newport Harriers in 1994 and I started running while he trained. Within weeks I was training seriously and a member of Newport too.
Any message to newcomers?:
Probably the hardest thing you'll do is coming to a club session first time. After that you'll find all the company, inspiration and support you need to achieve whatever you aim for.

Race for life, my sons friend had leukaemia aged 9. I was determined to run all 5k. I started by running lamppost to lamppost. Then Paul Harmes mentioned Park Run and Lliswerry Runners and I have never looked back. There is always someone to run with and made some incredible friendships.

Any message to newcomers?:

A really friendly club. Lots of encouragement and support no matter what your ability or capability. Everyone is welcomed with open arms. It is like having a huge extension to your family.

Don't think because its a running club you have to be an elite athlete. Lliswerry caters for all abilities and encourages everyone. My advice? Keep to tarmac.

How did you start running?:
Introduced to Cardiff parkrun by a friend and so the story goes. Came to Newport for their first parkrun and never left. Soon afterwards the brothers Grimm (Chris & Nick Davies) convinced me to give a Lliswerry training session a go...and now they can't get rid of me! I have recently (May 16) qualified as a LiRF so if you want any hints or tips on getting into running or what Lliswerry can do for you, just ask.
Any message to newcomers?:
Have fun, it is the most important aspect.

Anything is possible. You don't know your limitations until you try. Unless you give it a go, you'll never know...

How did you start running?:
After I turned 30, I thought to myself what I can do to keep fit so I can keep up with my kids and not too expensive so picked up running. A load of races later and a garage filled with running shoes, safe to say it’s not as cheap as I thought
Any message to newcomers?:
Chris really sold the club values very well to me once at parkrun and it stuck with me for over a year, as well as Kevin and Sarah at our local running group in pontprennau over the last year and half (the jog squad) so I decided to join. I wanted a friendly space that was accepting where I could have fun and improve as well and so far, I am glad of the decision I made to be a member.

I started with a run/walk along the canal. I signed up for the race for life, and wanted to run the whole 5k. I heard about Newport Parkrun and started on their 3rd event, met a lot of friendly people from Lliswerry runners and haven't looked back.
Any message to newcomers?:
Lliswerry is such a friendly club. It doesn't matter how quick or slow you are, everyone is welcome. It has a great team spirit.
