Any message to newcomers?:

Put aside any doubts you have about your size, shape ,speed. If you have started running you are a runner. Join a club, especially one as friendly as Lliswerry Runners, and you will make good friends, your running will seem easier and your performance will improve naturally.

How did you start running?:

Running away from my Mom ;-) I ran both XC and 1500m from the age of 11. I'd run plenty of races before joining, but found the speedwork difficult to do on my own. I chatted to few members at Newport parkrun, came down and tried a session and the rest is history!

Any message to newcomers?:

Joining Lliswerry will be the best running decision you can make. The support from clubmates, at training, parkrun, races and during injuries really is incredible. Also, if you are a lady, we are always looking for more ladies of all abilities to come and join our XC and road teams :-)

Turning 40 and had my girls I thought I would start to get my life back. I couldn't run up the road without stopping. I was more of a brisk walker. So thought if I signed up for a half marathon I would have to start learning to run. I went from nothing. I joined lliswerry running group. It was the best thing I have done. I have now done 3 half marathons, 5 10ks, Rack Raid. Rose inn relays. I am so proud of what I have achieved. Thank you lliswerry.

How did you start running?:
Encouraged to start by my daughter, followed by joining Newport parkrun from day 1. I had a weight and blood pressure problem and generally a bad attitude to my health. After twelve months concentrating on parkrun, I entered the Lliswerry 8, injured myself, recovered and joined the club.
Any message to newcomers?:
There isn't a friendlier bunch than Lliswerry Runners. The club is open to all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes. The social aspect is as attractive as the athletic side. The coaching is top notch and no-one has to do anything they don't want to or can't do.

On a family holiday in north Wales my wife was off running every morning with our dog, when she'd get back to the tent she would allways say "I wish you could come running with us", about a month later I agreed to try. I have not looked back.

Any message to newcomers?:

It's much better running with Friends than on your own and Lliswerry Runners really are a great bunch of dudes and dudettes they(we)have a great weekly structure that will help any runner, weather your into running fast or slow the group system, routes and training plans really do aid in impoving running fittness for all abilities.

Woke up one morning and had an urge to go for a run. Downloaded the couch to 5K app on my phone and off I went. Got hooked straight away and haven't looked back. Once I built up to the 5K I looked on the Internet for a local running club and joined Lliswerry Runners in Oct 2013
Any message to newcomers?:

I had a bit of a health scare a few years ago and ended up in hospital. I was overweight, eating the wrong things and spending too long doing nothing! So I decided I had to change. bit by bit, I started running and I'll always remember how painful that first ever ParkRun was... but I stuck with it and look where I've got to!

Any message to newcomers?:

Try it... Don't worry about whether you're 'good' or not.. everyone started the same way with one foot in front of the other...Who knows how far you will end up going... and there's no one more supportive than a Lliswerry Runner beside you!
