How did you start running?: 
I decided that sitting behind a desk all day may actually have saved my joints albeit made me unfit but I thought the latter can be reversed but lack of the former cannot! I ran to a lamppost and back then got in my car and drove home, then decided to run to the next lamppost get in my car and drive home etc., etc.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Running is a big an addiction as anything out there, I have so many in-depth hobbies that some of which I have had all my life nearly but running took over all of my hobby/spare time the instant I started achieving much more than my targets.

Ruth Ovey

Road mostly but don't mind muck on the odd occasion.
How did you start running?: 
<p>Race for life, my sons friend had leukaemia aged 9. I was determined to run all 5k. I started by running lamppost to lamppost. Then Paul Harmes mentioned Park Run and Lliswerry Runners and I have never looked back. There is always someone to run with and made some incredible friendships.</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>A really friendly club. Lots of encouragement and support no matter what your ability or capability. Everyone is welcomed with open arms. It is like having a huge extension to your family.</p>

Sarah Lauder (Laud)

What's your favourite running surface?:

How did you start running?: 
<p>Running away from my Mom ;-) I ran both XC and 1500m from the age of 11. I&#39;d run plenty of races before joining, but found the speedwork difficult to do on my own. I chatted to few members at Newport parkrun, came down and tried a session and the rest is history!</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Joining Lliswerry will be the best running decision you can make. The support from clubmates, at training, parkrun, races and during injuries really is incredible. Also, if you are a lady, we are always looking for more ladies of all abilities to come and join our XC and road teams :-)</p>

Mr Gareth Barrington

How did you start running?: 
Started running back in 1994 just before I joined the Welsh Guards, and since I left the Army in 2006 I've always ran just to keep fit, but since joining Lliswerry running club I've taken my running to a whole new level
Any message to newcomers?: 
If your new to running don't be overwhelmed by experienced runners or a running club but just enjoy the benefits running can give, from physical fitness, mental health and the social side.

Ceri Donovan

How long have you been running?: 
7 or 8 years I think!
What's your favourite running surface?: 
Forest, coast or mountain trails with sunshine and no mud!
How did you start running?: 
<p>Started with a programme from a book - had to write the runs on a post it note so I could remember what to do! Built up to 10ks and half marathons, then ran the NYC marathon in 2011 - crossed the line thinking &quot;I&#39;m never doing that again!&quot; - that thought didn&#39;t last very long! Soon after that I moved back to Risca, went to parkrun, saw the Lliswerry banners and rest is history!</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Everyone dreads walking through that door for their first training session, but once they&#39;ve done it, everyone wonders why they didn&#39;t do it sooner!</p>

Keith James

How did you start running?: 
<p>Originally starting running to lose a bit of weight and get fitter for 5 aside footie. Then I entered the Cardiff Half Marathon and everything changed, i got hooked. I did Paris as my first marthon in 2010. And 5 years later and almost 50 marathons &amp; Ultras... i&#39;m finally running London this year!!</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Anything is possible. You don&#39;t know your limitations until you try. Unless you give it a go, you&#39;ll never know...</p>

Chris Davies

I love road running, the flatter the better!
How did you start running?: 
<p>My brother, Martin &quot;Turtle&quot; Davies ran the very first London Marathon. He was my inspiration.</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Lliswerry has always offered a real welcome but in the last 5 years, since we launched Newport parkrun we have a evolved into a warm, friendly community of like minded people. Our priority is participation &amp; helping runners gain confidence to do their best.</p>

Patrick Hoare

How did you start running?: 
<p>My Dad and elder brother ran so I went along to a local running club in Hampshire in 1976. When I moved to Magor, I joined Chepstow but the lure of a friendly running club in Lliswerry was too much to ignore!</p>

Michelle shapland

How did you start running?: 
<p>Turning 40 and had my girls I thought I would start to get my life back. I couldn&#39;t run up the road without stopping. I was more of a brisk walker. So thought if I signed up for a half marathon I would have to start learning to run. I went from nothing. I joined lliswerry running group. It was the best thing I have done. I have now done 3 half marathons, 5 10ks, Rack Raid. Rose inn relays. I am so proud of what I have achieved. Thank you lliswerry.</p>

Simon Gill (Gilly)

How did you start running?: 
<p>I have always run, as I played football since I was a school boy, so I was always running as part of training. I started taking it seriously when I entered my first marathon in 2010, My times were OK, but when I started to train with Lliswerry, with their structured sessions and training plans, I became quicker and got more out of my running and haven&#39;t looked back since.</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Lliswerry Runners didn&#39;t get the nickname &#39;The friendliest running club&#39; by chance! Whether you&#39;re running 12 min/m or 5 min/m,the help, advice and encouragement you will get from both the coaches and other runners is second to none.</p>
