<p>Got fat and thought oh Bu**er best do something about it!.Joining the club was the biggest single thing that improved my running ( and my social life too!).</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Put aside any doubts you have about your size,shape ,speed. If you have started running you are a runner. Join a club, especially one as friendly as Lliswerry Runners, and you will make good friends, your running will seem easier and your performance will improve naturally.</p>

Hywel Jones

How did you start running?: 
Started doing a couch to 5K program on a treadmill at home, then my friend Jacko persuaded me to go to parkrun at Tredegar House. I managed to make it around without stopping and have had the running bug ever since.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Get to a parkrun and enjoy the experience. Try and attend the club training sessions to meet people with similar abilities. If you feel up for it enter a few local races. Lliswerry is a friendly club so if you have any questions or concerns then just ask.

Cheryl Hill

How did you start running?: 
I started Running as a hobbie when I reached my 40th birthday. Then when I reached mid 40s I decided to take it a bit more seriously entering races now and then and completing my first half marathon. But I needed to focus more, as I used to run on my own, so decided to get some help.
Any message to newcomers?: 
In March 2019 I joined Lliswerry Runners and have never looked back since. The help and support I’ve received has been amazing. My whole attitude to running has changed and I love club sessions. My pace and time has come on so much that I wish I had joined sooner. I can throughly recommend it.

How did you start running?: 
Woke up one morning and had an urge to go for a run. Downloaded the couch to 5K app on my phone and off I went. Got hooked straight away and haven't looked back. Once I built up to the 5K I looked on the Internet for a local running club and joined Lliswerry Runners in Oct 2013
Any message to newcomers?: 
Lliswerry Runners are suitable for all abilities. Everyone is welcome and supported. We all share the same love of running and help each other out. It's a family.

Mr Gareth Barrington

How did you start running?: 
Started running back in 1994 just before I joined the Welsh Guards, and since I left the Army in 2006 I've always ran just to keep fit, but since joining Lliswerry running club I've taken my running to a whole new level
Any message to newcomers?: 
If your new to running don't be overwhelmed by experienced runners or a running club but just enjoy the benefits running can give, from physical fitness, mental health and the social side.

Sarah Lou Francis

Road, Trail and maybe a bit of XC
How did you start running?: 
I was always a bit of a gym bunny until Juliet Sidney introduced me to parkrun, within the year I'd ran my first half marathon. Then a few years later, after the start of Newport parkrun Juliet & Neil introduced me to this lovely club.
Any message to newcomers?: 
It really is a club for all abilities and interests. Whether you just want to improve your fitness, compete in competitions or run an ultra, there will be support and friendship for you in all areas.

How did you start running?: 
I started very, very slowly and unable to run more than a hundred yards. I was running by myself until a wonderful friend suggested I joined Lliswerry Runners. Wouldn't of believed I could come so far.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Never be afraid to give running a chance, we all started somewhere.

Sarah Lauder (Laud)

How did you start running?: 
<p>Running away from my Mom ;-) I ran both XC and 1500m from the age of 11. I&#39;d run plenty of races before joining, but found the speedwork difficult to do on my own. I chatted to few members at Newport parkrun, came down and tried a session and the rest is history!</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Joining Lliswerry will be the best running decision you can make. The support from clubmates, at training, parkrun, races and during injuries really is incredible. Also, if you are a lady, we are always looking for more ladies of all abilities to come and join our XC and road teams :-)</p>

Chris Davies

I love road running, the flatter the better!
How did you start running?: 
<p>My brother, Martin (aka Turtle) Davies ran the very first London Marathon. He was my inspiration.</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Lliswerry has always offered a real welcome but in the last 10 years, since we launched Newport parkrun we have a evolved even more, into a warm, friendly, fully inclusive community of like minded people. Our priority is participation and helping runners gain confidence to do their best.</p>
