To join the police you had to run 1.5m in 13 mins so started around 1985. never joined a club until around 5 yrs ago (san Dom)
Any message to newcomers?: 
I keep a running log, have race times and run routes going back years, Travel the world and run! And get get a dog as a running partner.

David Phillips

How did you start running?: 
I decided that sitting behind a desk all day may actually have saved my joints albeit made me unfit but I thought the latter can be reversed but lack of the former cannot! I ran to a lamppost and back then got in my car and drove home, then decided to run to the next lamppost get in my car and drive home etc., etc.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Running is a big an addiction as anything out there, I have so many in-depth hobbies that some of which I have had all my life nearly but running took over all of my hobby/spare time the instant I started achieving much more than my targets.

Starting running was a life changing thing for me and joining a running club was something I never imagined I would do best decision ever, thank you Lliswerry

James Kershaw-Naylor

How did you start running?: 
Initially i was looking for a way to keep fit and active without having to go to the gym or play rugby. I signed up for the 2014 Bristol Half Marathon, downloaded a training plan from Runkeeper and was quickly hooked.
Any message to newcomers?: 
I have only been a member for 6 months and I cannot believe how many positive experiences Lliswerry Runners has already provided for me. From support at races to the opportunity to take part in national events like The Castles its a fantastic club.

Mr Gareth Barrington

How did you start running?: 
Started running back in 1994 just before I joined the Welsh Guards, and since I left the Army in 2006 I've always ran just to keep fit, but since joining Lliswerry running club I've taken my running to a whole new level
Any message to newcomers?: 
If your new to running don't be overwhelmed by experienced runners or a running club but just enjoy the benefits running can give, from physical fitness, mental health and the social side.

How did you start running?: 
I started with a run/walk along the canal. I signed up for the race for life, and wanted to run the whole 5k. I heard about Newport Parkrun and started on their 3rd event, met a lot of friendly people from Lliswerry runners and haven't looked back.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Lliswerry is such a friendly club. It doesn't matter how quick or slow you are, everyone is welcome. It has a great team spirit.

Paul Day

How did you start running?: 
My son joined Newport Harriers in 1994 and I started running while he trained. Within weeks I was training seriously and a member of Newport too.
Any message to newcomers?: 
Probably the hardest thing you'll do is coming to a club session first time. After that you'll find all the company, inspiration and support you need to achieve whatever you aim for.

Gareth Beck

Love running off road
How did you start running?: 
Started with the Cardiff 10k to raise some money for Kidney Research and its gone on from there. Went on to half marathons, marathons and triathlons. Its all good fun and a terrific reason to get off the sofa!!
Any message to newcomers?: 
Be inspired by the fast girls and boys but never feel pressured. This is the friendliest most inclusive club and the coaches and your new running friends will help you to achieve your goals and dreams. Come on in and bring your trainers!!

Tarmac - definitely tarmac!
How did you start running?: 
<p>I had a bit of a health scare a few years ago and ended up in hospital. I was overweight, eating the wrong things and spending too long doing nothing! So I decided I had to change. bit by bit, I started running and I&#39;ll always remember how painful that first ever ParkRun was... but I stuck with it and look where I&#39;ve got to!</p>
Any message to newcomers?: 
<p>Try it... Don&#39;t worry about whether you&#39;re &#39;good&#39; or not.. everyone started the same way with one foot in front of the other...Who knows how far you will end up going... and there&#39;s no one more supportive than a Lliswerry Runner beside you!</p>
