If you've just joined Lliswerry Runners, then a warm welcome! We're a big club with a warm heart. To help you get off to a flying start, here's a "top ten" list of useful information for new members.
(1) Training Sessions:
For most sessions we split into Training Groups where you are grouped with those of a similar speed.
In addition to this web site, we have a Facebook Group (for Members only, access approved upon joining) for chat, photos and updates and a Facebook Page , Twitter & Instagram account for general information.
From time to time we create members only Facebook Groups to share advice for particular events e.g. a Facebook Group for members training for a marathon where training schedules will be found together with discussion with members & coaches.

(4) Club Kit:
We provide all new members with a free club vest. To receive your vest you must email Roni (email@example.com) or see her at a Wednesday training session to collect your vest. They are unisex and come in chest sizes in 2inch increments (e.g. .....34, 36, 38.....etc)
(5) Team Races:
The club participates in the Gwent Leisure Centre League which offers 5 cross-country races in the Winter (Sunday mornings) of approximately 5 miles and 5 road races in the Summer (Tuesday evenings). All club members can participate free of charge. Details of each race will be on our website & our Members Facebook Group. Club vests should be worn. Just turn up & run. At the end of each race you will be given a number token which you should give to a Lliswerry Representative so that your finish position can be recorded. Everyone who participates scores for the club as A team, B team, C team etc.
The club also participates in the Gwent League which is 5 cross-country races in the Winter. All entries are paid for by the club.
(6) Club Championship:
The Club Championship provides competition, fun & banter between members. Each member is automatically eligible to score points in 15 different selected races over the year. The best 6 events count towards your total and awards are presented for Age Category Winners & Best Improver. The whole system plus the selection of races is explained here. There is an Awards Dunner in January to celebrate the winners from the preceding year.
(7) Summer Relays:
Every summer the club competes in a number of different relay events. Some have minimum cut off times and are over tough terrain, others are a lot more inclusive. The club aims to offer a relay place to anyone wishing to represent the club. When the dates of these events are known, members will be asked to supply their preferences.
(8) The Lliswerry 8 Race:
Every year (for the past 34 years!), the club hosts an 8 mile road race for approximatly 850 participants. We don't allow members to run this in order that we can support the event management with volunteers. The only exception to this is the male & female teams which we select to compete with other clubs.
(9) Lliswerry Juniors:
As a family club, we encourage members to bring their children to Lliswerry Juniors who meet at the NISV Stadium on Wednesdays at about 5:30pm for a 5:40pm start. Ages are from 6 years and they train in similar ability groups just like the adults, are able to buy club kit & even have their own club championship. The emphasis is on fun, allowing juniors to be as competitive as they feel. The result is that there is a strong "team spirit" & club identity when juniors participate in parkruns and races. The Junior section of the club is managed by Emma Wookey who leads a team of assistants & coaches.
(10) Coaching & Leading:
For those members interested in becoming leaders (needed for all groups, all speeds) & coaches we encourage shaddowing one or more of our coaching team to see what's involved. For those with an interest & passion to become part of our Coaching team, we obtain grant funding for further qualifications such as Leader in Running Fitness and Assistant Coach.
We encourage our Coaches & Leaders to take First Aid (including Defib & CPR) and Safeguarding training and will normally obtain funding for these too.
